BLAIDSThe Black-Latino AIDS (BLAIDS) Project began in 1991 as a collaborative effort between the Black Pre-Health Organization and Chicanos/Latinos for Community Medicine.
Mission We are committed to disseminating information regarding HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases to historically under-represented and socioeconomically disadvantaged communities. We target African American and Latino youth in the inner-city areas of Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. |
BHPThe Black Health Project (BHP) at the University of California, Los Angeles strives to address the current health disparities within the Afrikan-American communities throughout Los Angeles. It is evident that low-income Afrikan-American communities are at a greater disadvantage due to lack of healthcare and health awareness. BHP provides free health-care screenings and health awareness workshops to the greater Los Angeles area to teach and support disadvantaged communities. Therefore it is BHP's mission to make a conscious effort to eliminate the health disparities that plague these communities.
BHP services disadvantaged communities within the LA area through workshops, blood pressure screenings, body mass index readings, and many other vital medical screenings. Bi-weekly, BHP takes volunteers to site to help screen people in the community. |
